An Honest Answer About After-Hours Work

Here is exactly how it works, so you know what to expect. We are not a 24-hour call centre — Doug is up at 4:30 in the morning, he reads what came in overnight, and he gets to you as fast as he can.

What We Actually Offer, Plainly

We would rather tell you plainly how this works than leave you guessing at 2am. Call or text and leave a message. Doug is up at 4:30am, he reads what came in overnight, and he responds first thing. If it is urgent, we do everything we can to get to you that day — and because you are dealing with the owner rather than a dispatcher, the answer you get is a real one.

What To Do Before We Arrive

For a burst pipe or a serious leak, shut off the water at the main valve — it is worth knowing where that is before you ever need it. For a leaking water heater, shut off the water supply to the unit and cut the gas or power to it. For a sewage backup, stop running water anywhere in the house, because everything you run adds to it. For anything involving the smell of gas, get out of the house and call the gas utility or 911 from outside before you call a plumber.

What Counts as an Emergency

Water that is actively running where it should not be, sewage backing up into the house, no water at all, and gas problems are all genuine emergencies. A single slow drain, a dripping faucet or a toilet that runs are not — they are worth sorting out, but they will keep until normal hours and you should not be paying an emergency premium for them. We will tell you honestly which category yours falls into.

How We Work

Call or send the form and we will talk it through. Estimates are free. If we need to come out and diagnose on site, our service call is $145. We work Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 4:00pm. Doug Adair has run this company since 1978, and he still goes out on jobs himself. You get a straight assessment of what your home actually needs — not a list of extras someone was trained to sell you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you available 24/7?

No, and we would rather be straight with you about it. If you call at 2am you will get voicemail. Doug is up at 4:30am, sees the message and responds first thing — and we will get to you that day wherever we can.

What should I do while I wait?

Shut the water off at the main for a burst pipe or serious leak. For a leaking water heater, isolate the water and turn off the gas or power to it. For a sewage backup, stop using water in the house. For gas, leave and call the utility or 911 from outside.

Do you charge extra for urgent calls?

Our service call is $145, the same as any other time. There is no after-hours premium.

Is my problem actually an emergency?

Water running where it should not be, sewage backing up, no water at all, or anything gas-related — yes. A slow drain or a dripping tap will keep until morning. We will tell you which one you have.
